Have you ever noticed how most women love the idea of taking on an interior painting project while most men would rather do anything but? It is true whether you choose to paint inside your home or put the brush to exterior painting it can be a tedious undertaking. In fact there may be times when you feel that hiring a painting contractor would be the smarter route to take.
Before taking on either an interior or an exterior painting job though remember to do the proper preparation work. Spending the extra time in this capacity will ensure that your job turns out beautifully. As part of the preparation work you will want to make sure you are working with a clean surface. Wipe down all interior walls with a clean cloth removing any dirt or grime. To accomplish this on the exterior of the home it is advisable to rent a pressure washer in order to get all mildew or grime that has attached itself to your home. Use caution though when knocking down wasp nests and the like. It has been recommended that when removing these nests you should spray them with a wasp killer in the evening time when they are less active.
Next you will want to tape off any areas you don’t want painted that may abut the surface you are working on. This might include baseboard, chair rail or crown mold. Painters tape is an excellent tool in this regard as it goes on easily and adheres tightly to the surface keeping your edges clean. You will find that your interior painting will need this preparation far more than the exterior will. Just a tip: the painters tape is also a great tool to use should you want to add stripes or other straight edge designs to your walls thru the use of contrasting color.
A very important tool to give attention to is your brushes and rollers. Not every brush is designed for every job, likewise with the rollers. It is not a one size fits all type of tool. Over the years various products have been produced in an effort to give us the desired texture as well as application through the use of different brushes. Take the time to ask questions of the customer service associated that are there to assist. You will be amazed at the different looks you can achieve simply by changing the brush or roller you use.
Once you have given attention to the aforementioned details you are ready to paint. Have fun be safe and enjoy the end result.
