Making your interior or exterior painting job look great

Have you ever noticed how most women love the idea of taking on an interior painting project while most men would rather do anything but? It is true whether you choose to paint inside your home or put the brush to exterior painting it can be a tedious undertaking. In fact there may be times when you feel that hiring a painting contractor would be the smarter route to take.

Before taking on either an interior or an exterior painting job though remember to do the proper preparation work. Spending the extra time in this capacity will ensure that your job turns out beautifully. As part of the preparation work you will want to make sure you are working with a clean surface. Wipe down all interior walls with a clean cloth removing any dirt or grime. To accomplish this on the exterior of the home it is advisable to rent a pressure washer in order to get all mildew or grime that has attached itself to your home. Use caution though when knocking down wasp nests and the like. It has been recommended that when removing these nests you should spray them with a wasp killer in the evening time when they are less active.

Next you will want to tape off any areas you don’t want painted that may abut the surface you are working on. This might include baseboard, chair rail or crown mold. Painters tape is an excellent tool in this regard as it goes on easily and adheres tightly to the surface keeping your edges clean. You will find that your interior painting will need this preparation far more than the exterior will. Just a tip: the painters tape is also a great tool to use should you want to add stripes or other straight edge designs to your walls thru the use of contrasting color.

A very important tool to give attention to is your brushes and rollers. Not every brush is designed for every job, likewise with the rollers. It is not a one size fits all type of tool. Over the years various products have been produced in an effort to give us the desired texture as well as application through the use of different brushes. Take the time to ask questions of the customer service associated that are there to assist. You will be amazed at the different looks you can achieve simply by changing the brush or roller you use.

Once you have given attention to the aforementioned details you are ready to paint. Have fun be safe and  enjoy the end result.

Steps to successfully painting your home

There comes a time when we can no longer avoid the inevitable. Our home is in desperate need of painting services and we can’t let it go any longer without doing something about it. Whether we decide to take on the task ourselves or hire experienced painting contractors we have several things to review first.

One of the most obvious decisions that we must make is, will we paint the existing colors or go for a facelift and change the color completely. There are definite benefits to keeping the same color. One of them being, that the paint will cover relatively easily since we are simply painting over one color with the identical color. Another might be that we are extremely happy with the look and want to only freshen it rather than alter it.

If you are like many of today’s do it yourselfers though you have spent countless hours watching home makeover shows and see this as an opportune time to get a whole new look. Painting contractors can give valuable assistance here. They see a variety of houses and an even larger variety of colors and can often times offer suggestions you may not have even considered before. If you do decide to hire a painting contractor ask him if he keeps a portfolio of past jobs. It is helpful when deciding on a color to see it on something larger than a sample size. What may look good on a small area could very well turn out disastrous over a larger area.

Another concern you will want to give attention to is whether or not you live in a community governed by a homeowners association. Often times these associations have a limited list of colors they deem as acceptable. Neglecting to review your color choice with the architectural board first can result in a costly fine as well as the expense of being made to change the color. One thing no one wants to have to experience is paying for painting services twice. Painting contractors that have worked in your neighborhood are many times aware of the color choices you are allowed and will offer only these.

Colors can be fun and when allowed the freedom, can be a creative way to express yourself. Before moving forward with your painting project take the time to ride around neighborhoods, flip through home magazines and search the internet. There are so many beautiful variations to be seen that it is almost sad to limit yourself to the run of the mill tones you saw on every house while growing up.
